This is a Web site to introduce Kiwi-W consortium. 1.Purpose of Kiwi-W consortium Kiwi-W consortium was started in July, 2001 as an organization for promoting standardization of map disc for car navigation system. The standardization of map disc format stored for car navigation system has been argued in ISO TC204/WG3 and then the KIWI format, which was suggested by Japan, is being deliberated as a most likely candidate to be the global standard. The Kiwi-W consortium was taken up by the navigation related companies in Japan. Main activities are publishing KIWI format and various kinds of supports on use. Now we are promoting explanation to the companies concerned in car navigation system in the world and use in other field than car navigation system. 2.Specifications of the format The KIWI format, which is being deliberated in ISO meeting, is an open specification. The specification can be purchased from JIS (see the Documents section for details). We set up the guideline to use the specification of KIWI format as well. The guideline includes the know-how of each car navigation system company in Japan, and it opens to only members.
